Birdy - £6
The Comedy Writers Club
“They called me Birdy. Not because I could fly, but because I couldn’t stop picking up injured birds.”
Sallyann Fellowes is a multi-award-winning powerhouse on the UK stand-up circuit, but before she was commanding the stage, she was attempting to command the streets. Birdy is her brand-new work-in-progress show.
The path to the police wasn’t a standard career choice. Sallyann was originally treading the boards in Plymouth theatre, dreaming of standing ovations rather than standing orders. However, following a personal, life-altering encounter that changed her perspective on justice forever, she had to swap the stage for the station, hoping to change the system from the inside.
But the vetting process is a little trickier when your family tree features a notorious gangster who is more “most wanted” than “most likely to succeed.” The show dives into the sheer comedic tension of trying to maintain a badge when your own relatives are the primary reason other people have badges.
Sallyann brings her unique, neurodivergent wit to the absurdity of police life and the grit of the CID. She explores the bizarre reality of being a female detective while navigating the “Birdy” legacy—a reputation for avian rescue that had absolutely nothing to do with her job description.
